Short biog
Writer and journalist for 45 years. Spent 15 years on Sunday Times, mostly during Harold Evans era, freelance since early 1980s. Often works in partnership with wife Leni. Keen hillwalker, completed Munros in 1998. Educated Dulwich College and University College Oxford. Lives with Leni in South London, has two children and four grandchildren.

Business interests
As well as writing, works as journalism trainer and consultant at a range of magazine publishers in the UK and overseas. Trained numerous journalists on the award-winning magazine Building. Professional activities
Currently writing for the Sunday Times Magazine and the Mail on Sunday, as well as specialist outdoor magazines and Travel Trade Gazette. Has written for most national UK newspapers and numerous magazines. Writes books and works as researcher and assistant producer in television projects. Increasingly active as journalism consultant and trainer.
