Paddy Dillon is a keen and dedicated walker with a great knowledge of walking opportunities throughout the British Isles, as well as around Europe and further afield.
Paddy is author and illustrator of over 40 guidebooks, half of them published by Cicerone Press, covering all parts of the British Isles and selected parts of Europe. He has contributed words and pictures to more than 20 other guidebooks, and has written and illustrated more than a dozen tourism brochures and booklets.
Paddy is an indefatigable long-distance walker, keen hillwalker, dedicated island-hopper and travels world-wide. He has delivered lectures and has appeared on radio and TV.
During 2009, Paddy started work on a five-volume series of guidebooks covering all the Canary Islands, focussing first on the exceptional network of waymarked trails on the small islands of El Hierro, La Gomera and La Palma. An early summer of soaring temperatures in Sardinia saw Paddy exploring exciting and stunningly scenic routes, as yet little-known to most walkers visiting the island. Midsummer was devoted to the Pennine Way, as Paddy explored the route for the fourth time, researching a new guidebook to the classic trail. The last big exploration of the year was a two-way trek along the Arctic Circle Trail in Greenland, completed before the first snows of winter began to close the route.
During 2010, Paddy will be walking along new trails on Tenerife and climbing El Teide, the highest mountain in Spanish territory. Another visit to Sardinia will see the completion of all the research for a new guidebook to the island. The Channel Islands are being visited to research guidebooks to Jersey and Guernsey. An extended summer trip to Iceland is also planned, and Paddy says he won't come home until he absolutely has to!
Paddy currently has four guidebooks awaiting publication, covering the Pennine Way, Arctic Circle Trail, La Palma and La Gomera / El Hierro.
